I write what I hear, that is to say that inspiration speaks and I listen. Often times I will count out the syllables and arrange them into meter, other times I will not. I write in both the formalist style and in free verse. But to me The classic formalist style has lately taken my thoughts and held tight. I love reading the older formal metrical poems, so it is not strange that I often write in the metrical vein.
My favorite Poet to read aside from Longfellow and W. Ellery Channing, is John Masefield. I own Masefield's Collected Poems, my favorites are his Hounds of Hell, sonnets and The Wanderer.
I love using Imagery in my writings and have gotten some success in using it.
I have come to appreciate the website http://allpoetry.com
all poetry has many members who take the craft seriously and have helped me to better hone my work. I would suggest the site to anyone.
I write under Tirrell on this site and have posted over 400 poems.
Some of these are good, some need to be further worked upon.
